RIYADH: Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation, headed by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, has sent emergency supplies to help people displaced by the ongoing conflict in northern Yemen.

Prince Alwaleed expressed his readiness to help the victims of the war in a letter addressed to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The distribution of the relief supplies, which comprised 1,000 tents and 10,000 blankets, has been arranged in coordination with the Yemeni government and the Yemeni Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and delivered to AlSaleh Social Foundation for Development.

Hundreds have been killed and thousands displaced by the fighting between government troops and rebels in the Yemeni province of Saada bordering Saudi Arabia.

This aid comes as a continuation of philanthropic support to the neighboring country. Earlier this year, the Yemeni president and Prince Alwaleed inaugurated 100 housing units in Al-Dhafir village for people left homeless by a landslide. During the event, Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel handed the deeds to the homes to the beneficiaries.
