JEDDAH: Suleiman Al-Jomaie, the lawyer of Mazen Abdul Jawad, the Saudi man sentenced to five years and lashes for his frank sex talk on a weekly TV program, said he would move forward with an appeal on Saturday by asking the judge to transfer the case to the Court of Cassation. The defense maintains that the case should have been dealt with as a media issue, putting it under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Information rather than a local court.
Special forces disarm students
AL-JOUF: Special police forces in Al-Jouf searched a high school to confiscate weapons from students, the daily Al-Jazirah reported on Wednesday. Sixteen police units and 60 officers searched students on Tuesday, confiscating an unreported number of knives and “other light weapons.”
Forger arrested with fake papers
JEDDAH: Police arrested a Chadian in his 30s accused of forging iqamas and visas. After receiving enough information about the forger’s suspicious activities, police moved in to arrest the man at his residence.
