JEDDAH: Wednesday’s rain flooded the entire ground floor of the Indian Consulate. The water reached more than one meter high, covering tables, file drawers and computers.
“There was even a short circuit and the electricity went out. We came here at 1 a.m. to see how much damage had occurred. It was very difficult to even get into the building; we came in with torches and there was water and mud everywhere,” said Consul K.K. Vijayan. “We are in public service and we need to resume work on Saturday, but due to the damage I don’t know if that will be possible.”
Vijayan said there were records on the ground floor that had been damaged.
“We are working now to clean the mud,” he added. “There is a lot of mud. Due to the holidays we are not able to reach the officials to get the aid required to repair the damage.”
