MINA: Over 150 young Saudi barbers, trained by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) have been putting their skills into effect in Mina. They started implementing the program for safe shaving during the days of Eid at the area the Makkah municipality designated for the ritual.
The young Saudis have gone through this program as part of the cooperation between the TVTC and the municipality. The program aimed at preparing a healthy and appropriate location for the pilgrims to complete the shaving ritual.
Rashid Al-Zahrani, head of the project, said these young Saudis had demonstrated the true spirit of skilled workers who had broken the stereotypes associated with certain occupations.
“The profession of barbers is one of the main occupations for which the institute provides training. To date, we have organized at least 18 training workshops,” he said.
He added that the TVTC gives an annual retainer during the training period.
The institute also provides clothing and any equipment needed by the trainees. “The trainee learns the profession and then receives a certificate to practice as a barber in either private or public sectors. Graduates could also apply for a loan at the Saudi Credit and Savings Bank to start their own shop,” said Al-Zahrani.
