JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia has donated 10 more ambulance vans to Sudan’s Darfur region. Executive director of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) . Mualla Olayan Al-Jabiri handed over the vans to the Health Minister of Northern Darfur Khaled Faqeeri, during a ceremony in Sudanese capital Khartoum on Thursday.
Addressing the ceremony, Al-Jabiri said the Kingdom has so far donated 30 ambulance vans to the three states of Darfur on the orders of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and president of SRCA Prince Faisal bin Abdullah. “This donation from Saudi Arabia will help improve the health of people in Darfur,” Al-Jabiri said. He thanked all Sudanese government departments for helping facilitate SRCA’s mission in Darfur.
SRCA had earlier signed agreements with the Sudanese Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to establish and operate 28 health centers and 21 water supply stations at a total cost of SR70 million to help 500,000 people in Darfur.
Faqeeri commended the SRCA’s continuous support for health services in Darfur. “This reflects the deep-rooted relations between the two countries,” he said.
Faqeeri said the ambulances would help in the transportation of patients from remote areas to hospitals. He urged Arab organizations to provide humanitarian support to Darfur.
