Yes, it is possible: With the New Year you get a fresh new start at achieving a healthy weight and toned body to be proud of. Having run a slimming club for 13 years I know that great transformations are achievable, and getting a healthy routine of good food and a balance of exercise can bring great joy.

A New Year is upon us and brings positive energy. We have all settled back into work and the festive season has been and gone. Now it is time to give your body its annual check-up.

Begin by taking a good long look at your body in the mirror. Is it looking good, loved and healthy? Is it glowing with health? Is it working properly? Or are there health issues that need tackling? Blood pressure? Stress? Depression? High cholesterol? I call this body maintenance and it is very important to give body maintenance your time. In fact it should be your first priority.

Our lives have speeded up so much it is easy to say we have no time for this but we make time for car maintenance and our health is equally important. Decide if you have ongoing health concerns and speak to your doctor. If you need to lose weight and take exercise write down your aims and then plan how you will tackle it. The secret of a good diet is to be organised and to plan ahead, especially if your life is very busy. Plan simple, healthy meals and then write your shopping list and when you get to the store, your challenge is to stick to the list. From my years running a slimming club I know that the secret is to lose weight slowly and to gradually change eating habits until you are in a good eating routine. Then always eat by routine, focus on being healthy and not on losing weight. Learn from the tortoise, slow but sure wins the race.

If you need a motivating kick-start to weight loss, the Actrim slimming system offers a natural solution. It is made from fruit and is available at most pharmacies or online. When you purchase Actrim you can apply to join my free online slimming club.

I have recently failed my exams and I am feeling fed up as I had really worked hard and now I find it hard to study. Should I accept that I am not bright and just sit at home? — Lula

You might like to remember this quotation by Winston Churchill – “Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking out potential.”

Try this list of tips it has helped many people.

1.) List your priorities and goals.

2.) Construct a game plan to achieve those goals.

3.) Take a step towards your goal every day, no matter how small.

4.) If you want, for example, to pass an exam – make sure you list and cover all the revisions.

5.) Knowledge is power.

6.) Maintain a positive mental attitude. If you feed yourself positive messages, you will have more chance of success. If you say, “I won’t pass” you won’t pass. If you say, “I will pass” you have a much better chance.

7.) Don’t be afraid to fail. It is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all.

8.) Pat yourself on the back and say, “I tried”.

9.) Believe in yourself.

10.) Keep on trying.
