MAKKAH: Gov. of Makkah Prince Khaled Al-Faisal has approved the sale of camel milk in livestock enclosures outside Makkah as long as specific health and safety conditions designed to ensure customer safety are met.

Dr. Muhammad Hashim, director general of Environmental Health at Makkah Municipality, said the approval protects the rights of both camel owners and consumers.

He said that a special committee set up to study the sale of camel milk handed its recommendations to the Makkah Governorate Office. The recommendations included allowing camel owners to sell their milk and health precautions that need to be taken to ensure the safety of consumers.

The special committee will see that workers carry health certificates and that camel owners have proper vaccination certificates from the local Ministry of Agriculture office.

The committee visited camel farms in the Al-Shemaisi area close to the Makkah-Jeddah Old Road and informed camel owners of the new regulations and that they need to comply within 30 days.
