YANBU: Government officials here began on Saturday to assess the value of homes slated for demolition under eminent domain in order to expand the port in this west coast port city.
The homes, located in the Qad and Minjarah districts, will be assessed by a committee comprising representatives of the King Fahd Industrial Port, the Ministry of Finance and local officials from the Yanbu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yanbu municipality and Madinah governorate.
Two real estate advisers have also been assigned the task.
Port officials had earlier estimated the prices of the properties, but owners of 50 homes in Minjarah disputed those estimates and filed 14 complaints with the Court of Grievances demanding a re-evaluation.
The committee is expected to complete this assessment within three months, those following the case said.
