Car thieves arrested

RIYADH: Police arrested a gang of eight men of Arab and Asian nationalities in relation to a number of car thefts and muggings in Riyadh. Police initially arrested two men following the theft of a Nissan Maxima and a Toyota. The arrests then led to the subsequent arrest of another six criminals. The gang confessed to 30 car thefts and eight muggings. Those arrested will have their cases transferred to the General Prosecution and Investigation Board. - Ali Al-Zahrani

Student killed and 14 injured in road accident

TAIF: The Keya Hospital in Taif received 15 male and female students and two drivers who were involved in a car accident on Saturday, said Saeed Al-Zahrani, official spokesman for the Health Affairs Department in Taif. He added that the hospital declared itself in emergency to deal with those injured and recalled all of its doctors. Some of the more badly injured students were taken to hospitals in Taif by ambulance. Al-Zahrani said one male student died of his injuries and that the rest are in stable condition. Student beaten up in Yanbu

JEDDAH: Police are questioning four people accused of assaulting a young man in the Al-Osaili neighborhood of Yanbu on Sunday. The four men forced the victim out of his car and beat him up. Police were called and the men were arrested and the victim taken to hospital for treatment. A police source in Yanbu denied reports that the four men were trying to kidnap the victim, adding that the beating was a result of a misunderstanding. - Muhammad Al-Sulami
