RIYADH: King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), has concluded an agreement with Modern Media Systems, an affiliate of Al-Faisaliah Group, to provide complete test and measurement equipment for a world-class broadband wireless research laboratory currently being set up by KACST in collaboration with Intel global research.

The accord was signed by KACST’s Vice President Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed and Prince Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, president and CEO of Al-Faisaliah Group, here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Prince Turki said, “Modern Media Systems was selected as the sole vendor due to their specialization in the field of test and measurement as well as for the services it provides through the training of engineers.”

He said that the joint center for research on broadband wireless would be opened in the second half of this year. He said that the establishment of this center was being carried out in collaboration with Intel Corporation with the objective of providing an appropriate environment to support research in the field of broadband wireless. “Companies working in the field of telecommunications, along with research centers and universities, are expected to benefit from the offerings of the center,” he added.

“The center will actively contribute toward supporting wide use of broadband wireless technology throughout the Middle East, Africa and Turkey,” said Prince Mohammed. He said that Modern Media Systems is the only company that has been approved by KACST for the supply of test equipment and this is due to the long relationship between them and the high technology products they can offer as they are agents for Agilent Technologies also.

The KACST is an independent scientific organization administratively reporting to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. KACST also acts as the Saudi national science agency with national accredited laboratories. Its function involves science and technology policymaking, data collection, funding of external research and services.
