JEDDAH: A mother has died trying to save her son who was drowning in an underground water tank at a residential building.
Civil Defense teams from the Al-Ais center northwest of Madinah initially managed to rescue the pair and rushed them to hospital.
However, the 28-year-old mother stopped breathing at the hospital and doctors were unable to revive her. The three-year-old child is still in intensive care.
According to a civil defense source, the child fell into the tank first and the mother jumped inside to save him.
Residents have been urged to ensure their underground water tanks are shut and to watch their kids more closely.
