ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi’s Districts and Sessions Judge Rai Afzal Hussain Kharal on Saturday charge-sheeted Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf.

The same court had earlier declared Ashraf an absconder due to his absence from several hearings into a case of contempt of court. Ashraf and two other accused, Benazir Bhutto’s former Political Secretary Naheed Khan and Shehzadai Kausar Gilani, appeared before the court on Saturday.

Ashraf told the court that he could not appear in the earlier hearings due to official responsibilities. He also submitted an application that he would be represented by his lawyers in future hearings due to this. The court accepted his petition but said he would be bound to come in person as and when needed.

The case relates to court hearings relating to President Asif Ali Zardari in the late 90s when Ashraf, Khan and Gilani mistreated a judge and hurled black ink on his face.
