GAZA CITY: A senior Hamas leader confirmed on Saturday that the movement has received a Libyan invitation to send its representatives to Tripoli to meet with Libyan officials over Palestinian national reconciliation, a report said.
The Jerusalem-based "Al-Manar" newspaper also quoted a Libyan official sources as saying that the Fatah movement would soon receive a similar invitation. The same sources said this step came in the framework of Libyan efforts to support Palestinian reconciliation.
It is worth mentioning that Hamas' chief Khalid Meshaal has recently visited Libya and met there with senior Libyan officials.
Earlier this month, the Fatah movement announced that it would not hold talks with the rival Hamas movement unless it accepted an Egyptian-drafted pact for national reconciliation. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stressed that he would not meet Meshaal unless Hamas signed the Egyptian proposal for the Palestinian reconciliation.
