AMMAN: Jordanian authorities have arrested scores of extremists in connection with a failed bomb attack on Israeli diplomats, a security official said on Sunday.
He said dozens have been detained in a police crackdown, which was continuing across Jordan.
The official declined to provide other details and insisted on anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to the media.
No one was killed or injured in the Jan. 14 attack on a convoy of Israeli diplomats heading home for the weekend. It was the first roadside bombing in Jordan and exposed a security gap for Israeli diplomats.
Another official said more than 40 alleged militants have been arrested in Jordan since a Jordanian blew himself up in Afghanistan in December, killing seven CIA agents, a security official said on Sunday.
“More than 40 Jordanian jihadists, including ex-convicts, have been arrested following the Khost attack,” the official said.
