Doherty voted UK’s nightmare celebrity neighbor

LONDON: Britons have voted rock star Pete Doherty the country’s least desirable celebrity neighbor after a string of lurid headlines about his wild parties, a poll showed Monday. The Babyshambles singer’s infamous celebrations that have left his homes filled with litter and covered in blood pushed him to the top of the survey carried out by property website Zoopla.co.uk. Doherty, the former lover of supermodel Kate Moss, has also had repeated run-ins with the law and has a string of drug and motoring offenses to his name. Coming in a close second to Doherty in the nightmare neigbours poll was troubled singer Amy Winehouse, while glamor model Katie Price — also known as Jordan — was the third least desirable neighbor.

‘Lost’ actor joins ‘Hawaii Five-O’

LOS ANGELES : “Lost” veteran Daniel Dae Kim is staying in Hawaii with a lead role on CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0” remake. In CBS’ updated take on the classic cop series, Kim will play Detective Chin Ho Kelly, a sidekick role played in the original series by Kam Fong. The part of Detective Steve McGarrett has not yet been cast, though “Moonlight” star Alex O’Loughlin continues to be in talks for it. The new “Hawaii Five-0” hails from hot feature writers and “Fringe” co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and “CSI: NY” executive producer/co-showrunner Peter Lenkov. Kim, who played Jin Kwon on “Lost” for its six-season run, is the first actor from the show’s core cast to book a new series project this pilot season as the ABC mystery drama heads to its May finale.

James Cameron left wife for ‘Titanic’

LONDON: Acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron’s ex-wife Linda Hamilton has revealed that the filmmaker left her because of his dedication toward his movie “Titanic.” Hamilton says Cameron marries every movie he makes, and insists his devotion to the 1997 epic hit played a damaging role in their relations, reports thesun.co.uk. “Titanic was the mistress he left me for. He was the kind of man who really would rather be at work with the mistress than at home with the wife. That was hard to come to terms with,” she said. Cameron’s affair with “Titanic” actress Suzy Amis, his fifth and current wife, is also widely cited as the final straw for the split that awarded Hamilton a $50-million divorce settlement in 1999 after a two-year marriage with the filmmaker. Having scooped 11 Oscars with “Titanic,” Cameron’s movie-making obsession spilled over into all areas of his life to the detriment of his family, reveals Hamilton. The actress, 53, who has a child, 16-year-old Josephine, first met Cameron when he cast her as Sarah Connor in his 1984 classic “The Terminator” alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. But it wasn’t until 1991 on the set of the sequel “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” that the pair took their mutual attraction to the next level.

I am not going to win Oscar: Sandra Bullock

LONDON: Oscar-nominee Sandra Bullock says she won’t be the one walking away with the best actress award at the Oscars this year. “I am not winning an Oscar. Nine times out of ten I always pick who is going to win. And I already know who is going to win. I am not going to say, but nine times out of ten, I’m right,” starpulse.co.uk quoted Bullock as saying. Bullock has been nominated for her role in “The Blind Side” and is facing stiff competition from Helen Mirren (“The Last Station”), Carey Mulligan (“An Education”), Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire”) and Meryl Streep (“Julie & Julia”). The award ceremony will take place March 7.

Howard Stern may become ‘American Idol’ judge

LOS ANGELES: Who will replace the sarcastic Brit Simon Cowell as a judge on “American Idol” from next year? There are rumors that the high-profile slot may go to Howard Stern — America’s highest paid radio jockey. Fifty-six-year-old Stern, called America’s “shock jock,” currently hosts the “uncensored’ Sirius XM Radio show. Cowell, who became famous or notorious for his nasty put-downs on the show and was paid $50 million a year, is moving to start the US version of The X Factor — the hit British talent show — next year. Rated seventh on Forbes’ “World’s Most Powerful Celebrity” list, Stern is on a $100-million-a-year contract with the radio station. His contract expires in January next year — well before the “American Idol” season. The “shock jock,” who is also author of two bestsellers titled “Private Parts” and “Miss America” — says he has already been approached to host a TV show from next year. But he is reportedly unwilling to travel across the US — as the job at the “American Idol” entails.

Peter Andre wants to start coffee shop chain

LONDON: Singer Peter Andre has revealed his desire to set up a coffee shop chain. The star says he is “obsessed” with the caffeinated drink and would love a place called Andre’s, reports mirror.co.uk. “I’m obsessed with coffee. There is a big coffee culture in Australia. The alcohol may come out at night, but during the day it is all people want. It’s an ambition of mine to open a chain of coffee shops. Maybe I’d call it Andre’s,” he said. Asked if he would also lend a helping hand at his place, if ever he manages to start one, he said: “I’d definitely work behind the till of my own place, just like Robert De Niro does at his restaurant in New York. You’ve got to show the customers you care.”
