As a result of the dispute, the man’s apartment, which belongs to the Health Affairs Department, has been without electricity for five months. The man has called on the minister of health to look into the matter and ensure electricity is restored to his home.
The man, Aziz Abdul Rahman, told Arab News that power was cut from his apartment after he refused to vacate it following a suit he filed against the Health Affairs Department two years ago. Abdul Rahman filed the suit after he was sacked from his job as a nurse. “I worked as a nurse in the Ministry of Health for 23 years. I was terminated in a manner which was unjust and against rules and regulations. I filed a case at the Court of Grievances with the hope that I would be reinstated in my position and all my entitlements would be paid to me,” he said. \ Abdul Rahman said he was qualified to do the job, is a holder of a university degree and has long experience. “For two years I have been pursuing my case against the Health Affairs Department in Jeddah. I hope that my 23 years of service will stand me in good stead,” he said. Addressing the minister, the Palestinian expatriate said: I am sure that the cutting off of electricity from my nine-member family will not please you. I am also certain that you will not be happy that this has been my reward after all these years. The Palestinian nurse and two of his colleagues filed a lawsuit against the Health Affairs Department claiming that their contracts were unjustly terminated. They are seeking to be reinstated.
Abdul Rahman also appealed to the Makkah Governorate and the Human Rights Commission in Makkah to assist him in renewing his iqama until his case has been finished, particularly since he has a son studying abroad and needs to have an exit-/re-entry visa to be able to travel for his studies.
