Montgomery, Soki, Bridgeford champs at FGA Battle of Champions

Braving the cold were 66 players, including FGA associate members,  that excelled at the monthly events of the last season.
Sam Montgomery, an 8-handicap golfer, led  the three division champions who are all FGA associate members.
Montgomery won the Division A (0-14) title over the Filipino duo of Rudy Pranga and Ben Torrefiel.
Montgomery shot the day’s low gross of 77 to win by two strokes over Pranga with a net score of 69. Pranga, with a 14 handicap, had a 71, while the 12-handicap Torrefiel came in third on 72.
Attila Soki, playing off 21 handicap, emerged the Divison B (15-21) champion after compiling an 1-under 72. In second place was Shankar Shankar who won via the countback from Jimmy Manabat after both players tied on 74.
The Stableford format Division C crown went to Richard Bridgeford, a 24 handicap who pooled 36 points. Zoilo Holganza and Ben Bollozos claimed second and third positions after the countback on 35 points.
Val Navarro and Shankar took the prizes for nearest to pin on No. 4 and No. 17, respectively.
Filipino bankers Jojo Marigomen and Felipe Cortejos, sponsored the 18-hole tournament.
In his brief speech during the awards ceremony Cortejos, assistant GM, risk senior credit officer and risk manager Central Region at Samba Financial Group, congratulated the FGA for organizing a successful tournament and acknowledged the FGA’s role in fostering friendship among Filipino and other golfing expatriates in Riyadh.  Cortejos also recognized some of the past presidents and leaders of the organization from whose effort and encouragement the FGA has grown over the years and encouraged the new and younger members particularly the current active FGA President Cesar Rosario to continue supporting the organization to make it grow and prosper. 
For his part, Marigomen, general manager and chief risk officer at Alinma Bank,  also thanked the FGA officers and friends and wished them success in the coming golf tournaments for 2010.
Meanwhile, Rosario said the next tournament has been set for March 19 after the   63rd PAL Interclub Golf Tournament in Bacolod, Philippines, where the FGA will be fielding three teams.
