Leonardo Chavane says the disease is spreading, with more than 2,600 cases of people who have contracted the highly contagious yet easily preventable infection this year.
He said Saturday that the situation remains worrying as some provinces hit by cholera are now also affected by flooding, which is likely to spread the disease further.
Earlier this year, seven people died in a riot sparked by false rumors that health staff were spreading cholera rather than fighting it. The wave of attacks on health centers caused by such rumors has died down.
