Fahd Abu Tarboush, who is also the director general of the central department for development projects in the Madinah region, urged the press to be accurate and truthful in their reports about the project and to obtain from using original sources.
Newspapers had reported that scaffolding on a construction site in Mina for the monorail had collapsed, which injured the workers.
Some local papers erroneously claimed the incident had occurred during work on the Haramain railway project.
Abu Tarboush said coverage of the accident had been blown completely out of proportion.
He also blamed “human error” for the scaffolding not being fixed properly despite strong winds, which contributed to the accident. He added that these types of accidents, were tragically common in construction sites.
Abu Tarboush said the project is progressing according to plan and around a third of it will be operational during the coming Haj season.
"The tracks will be ready by then and the project will be operational at full capacity by 2013," he added.
