The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Bangkok issued an alert on Thursday to all Saudi citizens in Thailand to take utmost care and caution, urging them to leave as soon as possible.
“The warning will be in effect for an indefinite period of time, or until the political situation in the area calms down,” said Chargé D'Affaires of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Bangkok Nabil Hussein Ashri.
The Thai government has upgraded its security measures after two blasts hit government buildings this week after anti-government protests erupted earlier this month.
Chargé D'Affaires at the Thai Embassy in Riyadh Charn Jullamon played down the danger to foreigners in the country.
“The anti-government protests in Bangkok have been peaceful so far,” he told Arab News on Thursday. The number of Saudis currently in Thailand is unknown, said Ashri.
“We received two phone calls thus far from Saudi businessmen in the area, and they are in good health,” he said. “We have not received any emergency calls and hopefully everyone is safe. But we urge everyone to comply with our request to leave the country at any given chance. I also urge Saudi businessmen on their way to Thailand to delay their trips until the situation calms down.”
Jullamon said that the Thai mission in Saudi Arabia issues about 700 visas a month in the Kingdom, mostly to Saudi citizens.
The Saudi Embassy in Bangkok has provided the following emergency numbers for Saudi citizens in Thailand: 0066-844-603-845 or 0066-843-311-011.
