The fierce militant-security force encounters also left dead four army troopers and injuries to a senior police officer.
The armed clashes began Tuesday evening after the Indian Army and police jointly surrounded a forest area on a specific tip-off about the presence of a group of heavily armed militants.
“Six militants have been killed in the joint army-police operation in the forest area near Bagla village of Rajouri district today,” Rajouri district police chief Shafaqat Wattali told Arab News on Thursday.
He said four militants were gunned down by the security forces in the Kandi area of the district on Wednesday.
Four army troopers were also killed in the fierce Kandi encounter that began on Tuesday after security forces surrounded a forest area on specific information about presence of militants there. One police officer was also wounded in the firing exchanges.
The gunfights came in the wake of the Indian Army’s statement that 400 militants were waiting to sneak into the Indian side of Kashmir to give impetus to the insurgency.
The Indian Army says they fear a hot summer in Kashmir, but added that the troops were ready to handle the situation.
State police chief Kuldeep Khuda said here on Thursday that 898 policemen and 470 special police officers (SPO’s) were killed in past two decades while fighting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
