Machado clocked 8 minutes, 26 seconds for the 6.8-kilometer (4.2-mile) course in Angers. He beat race leader Luis Leon Sanchez of Caisse d'Epargne by two seconds. France's Anthony Roux was third, six seconds back.

Sanchez leads Machado overall by eight seconds. Roux, who rides for Francaise des Jeux, is third, 13 seconds behind.
Earlier, Anthony Ravard of France won the 97-kilometer (60.3-mile) trek from Varades to Angers.
