The donation, made through the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation, was made to the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, which is responsible for social housing in the country.
Prince Alwaleed already has a history of philanthropic activity in Egypt. The foundation donated 800,000 Egyptian pounds to the families of those killed and injured by a train accident in Al-Ayyat, which claimed 18 lives and injured more than 30 others.
He donated SR5 million to build 100 houses for people living in the slums of Cairo. He also pledged 1 million Egyptian pounds to the campaign of Egypt’s first lady Suzanne Mubarak to fight cancer, as well as other initiatives.
The Kingdom Holding Company, which the prince chairs, has made a number of investments in the country, including in the hotel, agricultural and financial sectors.
Prince Alwaleed also has private investments in Rotana, one of Egypt’s leading media companies.
The Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation works internationally to tackle poverty, provide urgent aid in cases of natural disasters and provide women and youth in the Middle East and North Africa region with economic and educational opportunities through strategic philanthropic investments in sustainable projects.
The foundation also aims to encourage positive relations between the Islamic world and the West through dialogue, programs and educational centers around the world, promoting a greater understanding between different faiths.
