According to local Arabic newspapers on Thursday, the family of Rajih Muhammad Ali responded to the intervention of Prince Khaled and pardoned the murderer.
The pair was neighbors living in the Al-Waziriyah district south of Jeddah. A dispute that started off as an exchange of angry words soon escalated into a fight, during which the Sudanese shepherd killed the Yemeni.
When the beheading verdict was issued, a file of the case was sent to a reconciliation committee headed by the prince.
The committee, comprising a number of dignitaries, usually looks at murder cases that has resulted in death sentences for the killers.
It will approach the families of victims and ask them to consider pardoning the murderers in return for being rewarded by Allah.
The pardoned killer is working in Saudi Arabia as a shepherd. He is married and has three sons.
