“The officer has been arrested and is being interrogated while the injured soldier is receiving treatment in Royal Commission Medical Center,” spokesman of Madinah police Col. Mohsen Al-Raddadi said on Sunday.
The spokesman attributed the shooting to a months-long quarrel between the two.
According to informed sources, the soldier insulted the officer by slapping him at a morning parade three months ago. The soldier, who was arrested and imprisoned for three days, was released after the officer withdrew his complaint against him.
“About three months after that incident, when the officer saw the soldier alone, he shot the soldier with a gun on his leg and thigh early on Saturday. He approached the fallen soldier and shot him again in the shoulder. Then he took a stick he had with him in the car and beat the man until the stick was broken. He stopped only after he was convinced that he had sought enough vengeance for the humiliation he suffered earlier.”
The source added that the soldier was taken to hospital and operated on to remove the three bullets.
However, some soldiers held their senior commander responsible for worsening the situation.
“The commanding officer should have transferred one of the wrangling parties to a distant place in a case where a person’s honor is involved,” a soldier said.
