Lebanon's UN Ambassador Nawaf Salam said the council also unanimously calls for justice in the wake of the attacks on the joint UN-African Union peacekeeping mission.
Salam spoke as president of the 15-nation council this month.
The assailants opened fire on a three-vehicle patrol Friday morning near the village of Katila, some 50 miles (85 kilometers) south of Edd al Fursan. The contingent of 20 peacekeepers returned fire, and the attackers fled.
Three wounded Egyptians soldiers were airlifted to a hospital and are listed in stable condition.
