Canada was beaten 4-1 by the Swiss on Wednesday which cost the Olympic champions top spot in the first round. It was also Switzerland's first victory over Canada in 76 years of worlds history.
Friday's game started poorly for Canada with Norway jumping ahead 1-0 on Jonas Holos' goal in the second minute of the game. But Kane scored his first of two goals after 13 minutes and Canada pulled away with seven goals in the second period.
Eberle set up three goals in the middle period and scored another in the third. Tavares also scored twice in the third.
Sweden took a 3-1 lead when Michael Nylander scored 14:30 into the first period and looked headed for a comfortable victory against the Latvians. But Martins Karsums scored 5:01 into the third to make it a nervous last period for the Swedes before Tony Martensson secured the win with two minutes to go.
In Group E, Jarkko Immonen and Juha-Pekka Hytonen scored in the second period for Finland, with Pekka Rinne making 18 saves for the shutout.
Earlier, Peter Regin scored a goal and added two assists in the first five minutes of the game as Denmark hit six goals in the first period en route to a 6-0 victory over Slovakia.
Finland and Denmark have six points in the group and Slovakia remains on three.
Regin, a center with the Ottawa Senators, gave the Danes the lead just 65 seconds into the game. He then assisted on Philip Larsen's goal with a two-man advantage at the 4:20 mark and added another assist on Mads Christensen's power play goal 20 seconds later.
