"They were selling forged US dollars and Kuwaiti dinars to innocent parties who were going abroad," the police said in a statement.
The police confiscated $5 million and KWD8 million from the two youths, one of whom is an illegal resident in the Kingdom, during a sting operation by an elite police unit.
Also confiscated were fake antiquities, including statuettes the teens were trying to sell by claiming they were 1,000-year-old artifacts. They also confiscated fake diamonds.
The deceivers had forged government documents claiming they were certified to sell antiques. The young men also had marketing material, including CDs with images of their products. The youths were targeting patrons of posh hotels in the capital.
According to stories relayed by the victims of the scam, the young men would have women accompanying them, posing as their wives in order to attract families. The women involved are still at large.
