The team consists of doctors, technicians and nurses and a Saudi businessman, Abdullah Ahmed Bougshan, bore the expenses of the operations, which target 30 cases from different governorates of Yemen.
Dr. Ahmed Qasem Al-Ansi, head of TGH, said the Saudi team is headed by Dr. Zuhair Al-Halias, a well-known open-heart surgeon, who will carry out heart operations on children to correct congenital heart defects.
"This visit is an embodiment of the strong relations between Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We are determined to bring experienced doctors to let them share their know-how with local doctors. The same team has visited Yemen many times and performed complicated operations," Dr. Al-Ansi was quoted as saying by the Ministry of Defense website.
Another medical team completed its mission in Yemen on Friday after performing free pediatric surgeries in the Saudi German Hospital in Sanaa. Over six days, the team carried 16 heart surgeries and 42 cardiac catheterizations, in addition to 120 biopsies.
The program was organized by International Islamic Relief Organization-Saudi Arabia.
In the southern province of Hadramout, the Bougshan Hospital in Doan hosted on Thursday a team of hematologists who came from King Faisal Specialist Hospital. The team attended to a number of pediatric cases and tested blood samples. They also gave a workshop to the hospital's medical staff.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Jufiri, a consultant of children’s blood disease and head of the team, lectured on Wednesday at the Faculty of Medicine, Hadramout University of Science and Technology. The Saudi doctors shared their expertise with their counterparts in Hadramout.
