Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. unveiled the "world's sleekest, premium full-HD 3D LED TV" through its distributor United Matbouli Group (UMG) on Monday. "Samsung's 9000 series premium full-HD 3D LED TV is the ultimate marriage between a highly artistic design and technology, providing a high-class entertainment experience, made possible by Samsung's award-winning technology," Gyechoon Cho, MD, Samsung Electronics MEA HQ, Jeddah Office, told a press conference at Westin Jeddah. "Designed to be visually as beautiful and inspiring as the images you view on the TV, the new series is the most impressive full-HD 3D LED TV to date, with an ultra-thin profile at 7.98 mm thick with a built-in tuner, making it the world's sleekest TV," Mohammed Asad Ali, senior manager consumer electronics at UMG, said in his presentation. Samsung also unveiled the world's first premium touch-screen remote control with display "Touch Control," which comes with the 9000 series and allows people to continue their TV viewing experience anywhere in the home. The 3D new series is the "ultimate symbol of classic living that offers top-of-the-line performance, stunning beauty and elegance, and meets every sense of emotional satisfaction so you can lead a visually inspired life," said Adnan Matbouli, CEO, UMG.
KAU
King Abdul Aziz University (KAU) recently opened its Tourism Institute with the support of Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed. Classes at the institute started in the second semester of this year, with a group of academics and instructors from top Saudi hotels providing academic and practical lessons to 14 students. Study at the institute focuses on the practical side so that graduates will achieve academic excellence and professional competence necessary to land them high-paying jobs in the sector. After a tour of the institute, Prince Mishaal said: "We have tremendous confidence in our youth." He also commended the relations between KAU and Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland, which is considered the first institute in the world in this field and is the academic and technical partner for the KAU institute. Osama Sadiq Tayeb, president of the university, said the idea of establishing the institute took shape following the Kingdom's keen interest to promote tourism. Zuhair bin Abdullah Al-Tayeb, dean of the Tourism Institute, assured that the institute will seek, to prepare and present practical, academic and training programs.

Following its partnership with Ariel, LG and the Ministry of Water and Electricity (MoWE) in the "Saudi Water Savers" campaign, Axiom Telecom has received the "Appreciation of Support and Participation" award for its efforts to raise awareness of the importance of smart water use throughout the Kingdom. "Saudi Water Savers" is a kingdomwide campaign which aims to address the water challenge within the Kingdom, and highlight the different ways that the Saudi population can help save water in their day-to-day life. The Axiom Telecom team has pledged to support this campaign by utilizing more than 150 store locations across the Kingdom to highlight the campaign's crucial message. Bupa Arabia, a health care insurance company, has signed a joint partnership deal with Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) valued at more than SR2.6 million. The goal of the partnership is to recruit and train 94 male and female employees for various types of work within the company. Abdul Rahman Al-Zahrani, acting manager of the HRDF in Makkah, and Ali Mansoor bin Madi, administration and personnel manager of HR at Bupa Arabia, signed the agreement. Al-Zahrani said: "Our partnership with Bupa Arabia is very strong as the company is one of the pioneers in recruiting and training Saudi employees, and has excellent training resources and the capabilities to offer rewarding career opportunities." The quality of training provided by Bupa Arabia for new employees ensures that the company's high standards are maintained at world-class level. On completion of training the employees are fully qualified to take up positions in a variety of departments at Bupa Arabia. Ali Mansoor said: "Bupa Arabia's cooperation with HRDF is a key part of our commitment to employ and train young male and female Saudis, especially those who have the passion to work in the health care sector."
CADILLAC
Cadillac was ranked the top premium brand and its full-size Escalade won the Luxury SUV category, while the GMC Acadia, another GM SUV, won the Large SUV category, in a vote of vehicle satisfaction by consumers in more than 42,000 surveys compiled in Q1 2010 by AutoPacific, an American market research firm. "This award reaffirms Cadillac's position as a luxury market leader, especially because it is based on our customers' satisfaction and first-hand experience with their Cadillac vehicles. This is the third time in a row Cadillac takes the top spot, which shows that we are consistently meeting and exceeding our customers' expectations," said Thierry Sabbagh, regional brand manager, Cadillac, GM Middle East. Cadillac led the premium brands ranking with 713 points, eight points ahead of its nearest competitor, while the Cadillac Escalade won in the Luxury SUV category.

LG Electronics (LG) launched the LX9500, described as the world's first Full LED 3D TV, in Jeddah on Sunday. "Delivering a picture of outstanding clarity and brightness on LG's innovative INFINIA design, the LX9500 - a two-time award winner at this year's CES and a winner of the reddot design award 2010 - invites viewers into an entirely new world of Full LED 3D TV viewing," Hwang Unchul, EVP, United Yousef M. Naghi Co. Ltd. (UYMN), said. LG is sponsoring the World cup viewing that will take place at Rosewood Corniche, with LG Full LED 3D TV. Road shows in major cities and shopping malls all over the Kingdom have also been planned. "The LX9500 offers a 3D experience like no other in two different sizes 55-inch and 47-inch, where instead of just watching scenes, the viewer can actually be part of them through advanced features such as Full LED and INFINIA design," James Lee, senior product manager, LG. "Along with our 3D Blu-ray disk player, LG is well placed to become a true global leader in 3D home entertainment," said John Lee, MD, LG Saudi Arabia.

Al-Jabr Automotive, sole distributor of Kia Motors in Saudi Arabia, will announce the lucky winners of the prize draws for trips to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (June 10). The prizes consist of several packages, which are a mix of semifinal and final match tickets, roundtrip air tickets and three-night/four-day accommodation in relevant match cities.
