“I want to thank all of those who participated in putting smiles on the faces of local children and people, and I would like to thank the Friends of Jeddah Parks group for their efforts in coordinating with the municipality to open a park in each district of Jeddah,” said Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh.
“This park is the outcome of efforts between the public and private sectors, and I urge for more cooperation from the private sector in all community-related activities,” said Rami Abu Ghazaleh, head of the Albaik food chain.
The new park is named after Albaik’s anti-littering campaign mascots with the same name, Nazeeh and Wartan.
Fakieh urged local people to keep the park clean, adding that the park is there for the people of Jeddah. Fakieh also said the municipality would look into establishing a board of directors in each of the city’s districts that will then select a group of people who will oversee and maintain the parks.
“There are two issues that sum up the real challenge that faces everyone now — the first is how to maintain these parks from sabotage or misuse and how work together to maintain it. The second challenge is to ensure private companies will make it their responsibility to take care of the parks they have helped to establish,” said Fakieh.
