The agreement was signed between SEC Chief Executive Ali Saleh Al-Barrak and Alfanar Group’s Vice Chairman Sabah Al-Mutlaq in the presence of Hail Gov. Prince Saud bin Abdulmohsen.
“This new project will meet the growing demand for electricity and future needs of consumers in the region,” Al-Barrak said.
He added that the project would enhance the generating capacity of the existing power plant by an additional 160 MW.
The project will be fast-tracked as the first unit needs to be in service before the summer of 2011.
The power generation division of Alfanar Construction had recently completed extension work at the Sharourah power plant.
After work commenced in 2008, the first unit was put into operation in October 2009, while the third unit began operation in January 2010.
Apart from power generation, Alfanar Construction is also working on transmission and distribution projects, including substations at Kandarah, Hitheen and west Makkah. Its mechanical, electrical and plumbing division is working on several projects, including the King Abdullah Financial District and Al-Qasr Mall.
Alfanar Construction is one of the few Grade I classified companies in Saudi Arabia, enjoying an excellent reputation among various governmental agencies, utility companies and private organizations by virtue of its project development, management and execution capabilities.
The company has to its credit successful execution of projects in several parts of Saudi Arabia.
Alfanar Construction is the contracting division of Alfanar Group, which is involved in electrical and building systems.
