Kurdish guerrillas launched a three-pronged attack on a military outpost near the Beyyurdu village in Hakkari province, bordering Iraq late Monday and 11 of them were killed in the ensuing clash, the military said. Three soldiers were killed and three others were wounded, it added.
The military used drones to pinpoint rebels who were trying to escape after the attack, it said.
In separate violence further north also on Monday night, the guerrillas ambushed an army patrol near the Bukardi village in eastern Elazig province and wounded six soldiers. The troops killed one of the attackers.
The rebels have escalated attacks recently, saying the government has ignored their calls for dialogue. They frequently stage hit-and-run attacks from bases in northern Iraq.
The violence has claimed the lives of about 40,000 people since 1984.
