The 30-year-old allegedly made a hole in the back wall of a computer store he worked for in order to evade security cameras and guards.
“A police team was dispatched to the crime scene, and they took an inventory of the stolen items, which according the store owner were expensive,” First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq of Jeddah police said.
“Jeddah police managed to uncover the identity of the person who broke into the office. His fingerprints matched those left in the office. The suspect is believed to be living in the country without legal residency papers, and investigations are still being carried out to find out the motives behind the crime,” Al-Bouq added.
Jeddah police suspected the Arab national after he was already linked to an earlier break-in at another office belonging to a local scientific company.
Gold gang caught
Jeddah police have arrested six men in connection with a series of gold thefts from factories south of the city.
“The gang was led by a Saudi national who disguised himself as a security officer, along with his accomplices. The others were from India, Bangladesh and Yemen. They posed as security officers and used that as a front to gain access to gold factories,” said Al-Bouq.
He added that the gang would then come back late at night and enter the factory from the back doors to steal the gold.
Police traced the gang after receiving a tip-off about one of the Indian gang members who was trying to sell the gold for a cheap price after a dispute with his accomplices.
Police organized a task force to arrest the man and during questioning he confessed to the robbery.
Factory workers confirmed that the gold Indian was attempting to sell had been stolen from them.
“He confessed to the crime and led police to the rest of the gang members who were all caught and charged,” Al-Bouq said.
