The accused thieves were identified as three Mexicans —
Guerrero Lugo Elivia Grissel, 24, a woman, Campos Molan Elias, 39, and Gonzalez
Maldonado Mauricio, 24 — and Venezuelan Gutierez Orlando, 30.
"Apart from these four, there is one more accused, a
Venezuelan national, Perez Hander Valmor, who managed to escape from
Dubai," joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy told The
Economic Times. "While the other four were to travel to Hamburg from
Dubai, Valmor had a different travel plan and hence could not be
detained."
The suspects are accused of stealing $1.4 million worth of
diamonds from an Israeli diamond company that was exhibiting at the show.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deven
Bharti, a special team of the Crime branch was selected to bring the accused
from Dubai to Mumbai on Wednesday. After completing all government formalities
as per extradition treaty between the UAE and India, the accused were handed
over to the Mumbai police by the Dubai police.
