Prince Mishari, who has until now been head of the National Guard in the Eastern Province, replaces Prince Muhammad bin Saud who was relieved from the position on his request due to health reasons, the royal court added.
Baha is one of the 13 provinces in the Kingdom and is located southwest of the country between the provinces of Makkah and Asir. It is the smallest of the provinces with a total area of 11,000 sq. km and has a population of less than a million people.
Baha is known for its enchanting natural beauty with many tourist attractions, such as forests, wildlife reserves, wadis (valleys) and mountains that attract visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom. It has a university, which was established in 2007.
Prince Mishari’s appointment comes ahead of a meeting of regional governors in Makkah on Sunday evening under the chairmanship of Prince Naif. The governors will also meet with King Abdullah to receive his directives. Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Salim, undersecretary at the Interior Ministry, said the meeting would focus on the requirements of youth, especially ways to resolve unemployment among them. Youths represent about 60 percent of the Kingdom’s population.
“The governors will also discuss ways to protect youths from destructive thoughts and ideologies,” Al-Salim said. “Youths are the future of the country and can play a significant role in boosting its overall development,” he added.
The Makkah meeting will also discuss what must be done to improve services to citizens and residents across the country, especially the need for new development projects in order to enhance the welfare and well being of citizens and their standard of living.
About the annual meeting of governors with the king, Al-Salim said: “It gives them an opportunity to listen to the king’s directives, which represent the road map and working program for them to improve services to citizens.”
