Family and friends of the designer are pausing during the British capital's fashion week Monday to celebrate the life and work of the designer, who committed suicide in February. The 40-year-old had a history of depression and was devastated by his mother's recent death.
McQueen became chief designer at the Givenchy house in 1996, but was better known for his own label. He became famous for dramatic and often hard-to-define creations. They never sold in great numbers, but his was one of fashion's best-known brands.
