The Donmar Warehouse, where Birrell was acting in Stephen Sondheim's "Passion," said on Monday the actor was recovering in hospital and was "in good spirits."
The accident occurred during the duel scene in Passion, in which Birrell plays Colonel Ricci. The Donmar said the show would be canceled between Monday and Wednesday and the theater "hoped to resume performances from Thursday."
