“Saudi Arabia will leave no stone unturned to support the Iraqi people and provide them assistance to achieve peace and security in their country,” said a Cabinet statement after its weekly meeting.
In his appeal on Saturday, King Abdullah invited President Jalal Talabani and all Iraqi parties that took part in the elections and the political process for reconciliation talks in Riyadh after the Haj season.
King Abdullah said the talks would be held under the auspices of the Arab League in order to seek solutions for all outstanding problems that stand in the way of forming a unity government in Baghdad.
Former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's Al-Iraqiya bloc and other parties have welcomed the king’s call. The National Alliance, a merger of Iraq's Shiite-led blocs, including that of Nuri Al-Maliki's coalition, also expressed its appreciation for the king’s initiative.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by King Abdullah, denounced the Israeli legislative bill that makes Jerusalem a national priority area, saying the bill was aimed at Judaizing the city.
The meeting urged the international community to prevent Israel from activities aimed at Judaizing Jerusalem and changing its Islamic and Arab character.
Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja said the Cabinet decided to transform the national program for the management and rational use of energy at King Abdulaziz City of Science and Technology in Riyadh into a permanent national center for energy conservation.
The new Saudi Energy Efficiency Center aims at enhancing the efficiency of energy production and unifying government and nongovernment efforts in the field, Khoja said.
The Cabinet meeting made a series of amendments in the basic law of the Jeddah Development Company. It endorsed a memorandum of understanding signed by the Health Ministry with the US Department of Health and Human Services in Geneva on May 18, 2010.
The Cabinet appointed Nasser bin Muhammad Al-Abdullah director of the Riyadh governor’s office and Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Humaidan assistant director general of the Customs Department for revenues.
