The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) said it received a telephone call about the accident at 2.45 a.m. and that two helicopters were used to transport the injured pilgrims to hospital within 45 minutes.
“The five pilgrims were in a GMC car that overturned. Four of the pilgrims, whose condition was serious, were airlifted. The fifth was taken to hospital by road,” he added.
All of the injured are at Al-Noor Hospital in Makkah. Al-Jawfi said the SRCA had another additional air ambulance at hand to deal with any emergencies in the holy sites.
