I would say that only a crazy man would do such a thing. About 45 percent of cars on our roads have brakes that are faulty or fake. As a result, we see deadly car accidents.
Those responsible are businessmen who have no conscience. They know they are selling fake parts, but the only thing they care about is money, something that puts people’s lives in danger. If we are to blame businessmen, then we should also blame the poor supervision of customs officials, traffic police and individuals involved with the Kingdom’s chambers of commerce and industry.
The victim at the end is the poor man who buys fake products without knowing.
Last year, more than one million tons of fake products worth SR29 million passed through customs. Businessmen made huge profits. But this also meant that over 300,000 people died on the Kingdom’s roads last year.
The customs department did something good when it held a seminar to highlight the danger of fake spare parts and the role it is playing to bring an end to this problem. It said fake car parts are the most dangerous things a customer could buy. The customs department has tried to combat fake products. There has been a slight improvement but the problem is far from over.
There is little point of fining businessmen who go back to cheating members of the public. I think the punishment should be severe and involve executing those responsible.
They should also be exposed in the media. Either that, or we will be driving cars without brakes and facing death.
Sellers of fake car parts deserve severe punishment
