Kovalev became the 76th NHL player to reach the 1,000-point milestone with his sixth goal 10 minutes in. He joined Sergei Fedorov and Alexander Mogilny as the third Russian player to do it.
Spezza scored his sixth goal of the season to restore Ottawa’s lead. Milan Michalek had drawn the Senators even at 2-2 late in the second.
