Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan discuss drug menace

The
meeting is being felicitated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
(UNODC).
The
outcome of the meeting between Afghanistan’s Minister of Counter Narcotics of Zarar
Ahmad Moqbel Osmani, the Secretary-General of the Drug Control Headquarters of
the Islamic Republic of Iran Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, Pakistan’s Minister for
Narcotics Control Arbab Muhammad Zahir, and the Executive Director of UNODC
Yury Fedotov, will be presented to the press following the conclusion of their
discussions.
In
2007, UNODC launched the to strengthen
cooperation in law enforcement between the three countries most seriously
affected by illicit opiates trafficked from Afghanistan, where more than 90 per
cent of the world's opium and heroin originates.
The initiative has helped to forge an
unprecedented level of cooperation between the three countries on vital issues
such as border security and regional cooperation to deal with drug trafficking.
