The sessions have been organized by King Abul Aziz Medical City’s National Family Safety Program in cooperation with the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN).
Samira Al-Ghamdi, head of the charity Himaya, said the sessions, which have been approved by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialists, target staff in direct contact with severe cases of neglect and domestic violence.
This, she said, would also include discussing physical and sexual abuse and neglect and how to deal with such cases based on new scientific research.
Al-Ghamdi added that the sessions would be attended by judges, lawyers, security officials, psychology and sociology specialists, as well as nurses and staff working at care centers for children.
Speakers at the sessions include professionals from Jordan, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. They will discuss different subjects including how to work out if a child has been abused, the root causes of family-related abuse cases and its negative effects on society.
The sessions will also provide medical, psychological, and social evaluations of such abuse and specify Saudi laws protecting children, as well as outlining the rehabilitation programs abused children and their families should undergo.
Himaya previously signed an agreement with the National Family Safety Program that aims to increase awareness about domestic violence as well as the methods to tackle it.
Himaya is a charity organization specialized in domestic violence and helping victims of abuse through cooperation with governmental bodies.
