Blood stained books, bottles of milk and snacks were littered all over the road where the accident happened.
One of the girls, who suffered multiple fractures and other injuries, was operated on, said a source at Taif's King Faisal Hospital.
The other girls only suffered light injuries, the source added.
The accident occurred when four girls, three of them sisters, were crossing a main road close to the Hassan bin Thabit overpass to go to school on the other side.
The fourth girl escaped without injuries.
The aged driver told police that the accident was caused not by speeding but because he was blinded by the morning sun hitting him straight in the eyes.
Director General of Taif Education Department Salem Al-Zahrani sent a number of supervisors to check on the injured girls.
