The chief minister also assured the
farmers whose crops had been destroyed due to the rains that their electricity
connection will not be disconnected due to non-payment of the dues till April
2011. But the opposition was not satisfied with the package and the concession
the chief minister assured to the farmers.
The opposition had been stalling the proceedings of the assembly
for the past four days since the session began. They had taken the stand that
they did not want discussion but immediate compensation to the farmers.
Chavan told the house that the
government had taken into account the losses suffered by the farmers and after
the final report which will be received by the government by Dec. 12, the
compensation will be awarded to the sufferers. He further said that the
Maharashtra State Electricity and Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has been
ordered not to recover the dues from the farmers for another four months.

The opposition leader Eknath Khadse said the opposition was still not
satisfied with the compensation package.  Expressing his anger and
disappointment, Khadse said that the aid package was
like peanuts. The opposition then boycotted the session for the rest of the
day.
