“The moment the store owner found out the shop had been broken into, he contacted the police who arrived at the crime scene and found fingerprints,” said Col. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police.
Police set up security checkpoints around the area where the shop was located. This eventually led to the burglar’s arrest. “The man’s fingerprints matched those found on the scene. He is currently at Sharafiyah Police Station while investigations continue,” said Al-Juaid.
Meanwhile, a man in his 20s was arrested in the Safah district of  Jeddah for breaking into a car. “The suspect smashed a car window and stole a number of items from within. The owner of the car noticed this and was able to subdue the man,” said Al-Juaid.
“The man is currently in police custody. Once investigations are complete, his file will be sent to the concerned authorities,” he added.
Police also arrested a gang of six Somalis, comprising four men and two women, for carrying out a number of thefts in Jeddah. The group was arrested after a member of the gang was seen trying to steal money from a small sandwich bar.
“When the person who manned the sandwich bar left for a short while, the suspect went inside and fixed himself a cheese sandwich. He then began looking for money but couldn’t find any and then ran away,” said Al-Juaid, adding that an eyewitness who saw the man entering the store alerted the police and provided information about where the man might be.
“Police visited the location, an apartment, and arrested six Somalis. The gang members are being questioned and are between 18 and 30,” said Al-Juaid, adding, “The man got caught after making himself a cheese sandwich.”
