Soprano Fleming joins Lyric Opera

The Lyric announced that Fleming will be its first creative consultant for the next five years. She's also been elected a vice president of the Lyric's board of directors. As part of her new role, the 51-year-old will curate a world-premiere opera to debut during the 2015-2016 season and perform at the Lyric in concerts and opera productions.
The new partnership also means Fleming will work with the Lyric to increase opera audiences and awareness and develop initiatives for young professionals and singers. Fleming says it's also time to re-examine the opera house's role in American communities to include musicals.
