The houses were constructed and occupied by illegal residents of African origin.
The municipal officials, who started demolition operations after evicting the occupants and their furniture, did not encounter any resistance, said Ahmad Munshi, chairman of the Al-Maabadah municipality. Women were also present among the eviction officials.
“The unlicensed buildings on these locations were actually knocked down earlier, but rebuilt by these African overstayers. The buildings pose a serious health risk to the neighborhood because there is no hygienic sanitary system in place at these developments,” Munshi said.
He added that all illegal developments in the district would be removed without delay. “Municipal inspectors look for illegal structures so they can be removed instantly,” he added.
Munshi also called on residents not to occupy government-owned land.
