“The project will be completed within a few days,” said Abdul Aziz Al-Hoqail, president of SRO. “The construction of bridges will improve railway safety and facilitate traffic flow,” he told Arab News.
Al-Hoqail, who signed a SR382.8 million contract with Saudi Archirodon, a leading construction company, to construct dual railway lines, said the project would help the operation of speed trains by the end of 2011.
He said the proposed speed trains with a speed of 200 km/hour would reduce travel time between Dammam and Riyadh to less than three hours.
“It will help remove all of the 11 railway junctions where trains switch tracks,” the president said, adding that the halt of trains at these stations for other trains to pass by was causing the delay.
He said the new contract was signed with Saudi Archirodon, a joint venture with the French Company TSO, to complete the dual railway line between Riyadh and Dammam for passenger trains.
“The dual railway system for both passengers and goods will be completed within one and a half years,” the president said.
